Arthritis, in basic terms, entails joint inflammation. In The Definitive V8 Engines , we showed that a naturally aspirated 2.4 litre, 750 bhp Formula One V8 running to 20,000 rpm (2006 regulations) is subject to a maximum crankpin load in the region of 13,300 lb while a naturally aspirated 5.86 litre, 850 bhp Cup V8 running to 9500 rpm is subject to about 12,500 lb. Such crankpin loads deform the crankshaft, which in turn transfers deformation to the crankcase through its main bearing journals.

2. A bearing as in claim 1 wherein said spring support is sectioned into at least two opposing sections each having a plurality of said spring bars, the spring bars of said opposing sections being interleaved and supported by said stationary ring assembly.

An example of typical prior art filter, and one on which the present invention is intended to improve, is one in which the outer ends of the transport belt are supported by respective tilting pad bearing fluid film bearings produced by means of air boxes containing rectangular pressurized chambers and having a series of pressure releasing holes across their flat upper surfaces.

While most prior compliant foil fluid film radial bearings utilize a plurality of individual compliant foils and individual spring foils with a cylindrically bored bushing, there are instances where a single compliant foil and a single spring foil have been proposed with a cam shaped or lobed bushing.

The present invention is intended to overcome the problem presented by uneven support pressure acting on the underside of the belt that can result in uneven belt wear by providing an improved air box construction which produces an evenly balanced support pressure and thus promotes long belt life.

A quick study of the axial profile of the hydrodynamic pressure distribution for a grooved surface (insert), shown in Figure 4, demonstrates how any interruption of the smooth surface of the bearing in the load-carrying region will severely degrade the capacity of the bearing.

The plurality of bearing pads 15 are provided inside the bearing housing 11, protruding radially from the inner cylindrical surface 13 towards the longitudinal axis Y. The bearing pads 15 are circumferentially distributed around the longitudinal axis Y. The distribution is not regular but takes into account that on a lower portion of the bearing housing 11, due to the gravity, the load is greater.
